Bottoms up… hic!

So, 1 December was our 8th anniversary – 8 years since we went on our first date to what was then a charmingly weird Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park (and which has since become, as we discovered on our 5th anniversary to our distinct dismay, a ghoulish game of Santa-related sardines), got lost in the rain and ended up in a romantic clinch at a bus stop.

We are very good about anniversaries in this house but we are very good without overdoing it, which I like. OK, so we did treat ourselves to an afternoon tea at Bertram’s Brown’s, later rolling back home stuffed to the brim with deliciousness. And we exchanged cards. Oh yes, and I made this for Mark:

If you can guess what this is from this picture, you get a squillion points (unless you already know because I've told you all about it before!).

OK, here’s another (double) clue, hic!

Yes, I know, still quite cryptic. But can you at least spot our initials?

I can see I may have to be a bit more explicit. It may also be wise of me – at this point – to offer my usual apology about the photography. Who knows. Perhaps 2016 will be the year in which I finally learn how to light my photos better so as to avoid shadows, reflections and other such tiresome menaces. I had an absolute nightmare taking these shots – and have at least two other sets that are even worse, I promise you. I blame it on the winter gloom… but then I would, wouldn’t I?

Anyway, yes, a bigger clue:

Bottle of bubbly with added bubble.

I have to admit I was pretty pleased with how this turned out. And now for some randomly ordered questions and answers:

  • How did I do it? Well, I used gold-coloured glass painting outliner and went to work.
  • Did I have a pattern or plan? No and no.
  • Was I mad? Probably slightly, but what’s new?
  • Did I make any mistakes? Absolutely, but only several hundred.
  • How did I correct mistakes? Bloody quickly, by applying wet cotton buds and wiping off badly positioned outliner before it dried.
  • Are there any cotton buds left in the local shop? Barely.
  • Is the design symmetrical? This is a daft question. Don’t you know me at all by now? (Though it is only, I admit, symmetrical within reason: the labels weren’t completely central so I had to work around that, and getting perfection working freehand is pretty tricky, as it turns out.)
  • How did I come up with the idea? I stole it, naturally. From my brilliant and talented friend Sarah, in fact – thanks, Sarah!
  • Is it as good as I’d hoped it would be? Nearly. Plus Mark is, handily, a male of the species and is therefore, I’m hoping, less inclined to spot things.
  • Is there anything I’d do differently next time? Yes. I’d start at the back and do the front last so that the front benefits from a more practised and less wobbly hand.

Got any more pictures? I sure have:

And finally, heading back round to the front:

Not bad considering I haven’t done any glass painting for years, eh? Cheers!
